| | Robert Lenkiewicz was an immense human being and a remarkable artist. He was also my friend and to pay tribute to him, I have produced a DVD which was released in 2004. It follows the final six years of Robert's life, from 1996 to his death in 2002. This unique film shows 'the man behind the painter' and is a snapshot of the person who I knew through the many hours I spent with him, both as a sitter and friend. The documentary was initially not intended to be sold and was filmed purely as a home movie. The footage has however become a 'behind the scenes' portrait of the artist at work. The footage was mainly shot within his Barbican studio, but at other venues too within the City of Plymouth. It is a 'fly on the wall' impression of this larger than life character and fantastic artist, who was also a caring individual. My film offers a real glimpse into Robert's activities, his interests and of the colourful lifestyle he enjoyed. Through conversations, we talk about his work, his books, the library, his thoughts on love and death etc. He also speaks openly about his 30 year study into erotica, an inquiry involving 3000 women. Besides this, many other fascinating areas of Robert's life are discussed, which gives the viewer a genuine insight into the thoughts of this truly gifted gentleman. With unique footage of special talks and studio sittings, to his last Christmas Day spent with the street people of Plymouth, my DVD is a 'Must Have' for anyone interested in the life and work of Robert Oscar Lenkiewicz. |
